The Importance of Sleep for Health

Man sleeping soundly

There are countless benefits of getting a good night’s rest. Experts say that catching seven to eight hours of zzz’s can do wonders for your health and wellbeing. Consistent and healthy shut-eye can boost immunity, strengthen your heart, prevent weight gain, increase productivity, and generally make you a happier, healthier human being.

Unfortunately, most people are not getting enough rest, thanks to stress, a 24/7 work mentality, and a global pandemic that is keeping people up at night. A recent report claims that nearly 51% of adults worldwide don’t get enough sleep. And lack of sleep (six hours or less per night) can have some pretty serious health consequences, including unhappiness, depression, low sex drive, lack of energy, weight gain, memory loss, and general negativity.

The Sleep Foundation offers a number of ways to help you get better sleep, including:

  • A quiet, sleep-inducing bedroom that has a high-performance mattress and pillow, quality bedding, minimal light disruptions, a cool temperature of around 65 F, and pleasant aromas.
  • An optimized sleep schedule with a set wake-up time, a budgeted amount of sleep and a bedtime that makes that happen, and a cautious approach to napping that limits naps to 20 minutes early in the afternoon.
  • A pre-bedtime routine that includes a wind-down period before bed, dim lights that contribute to your body’s production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin, and a complete disconnect from devices at least 30 minutes before bed.
  • The development of pro-sleep habits, including time outside, a focus on movement and fitness, limiting caffeine and alcohol throughout the day, avoiding smoking, and not eating too late.

Another excellent way to improve your sleep habits is to take advantage of Kool’s thoughtful sleep products that are designed to help improve your sleep for enhanced wellbeing and recovery. Our Sleep Support Soft Gels include a snooze-inducing blend of CBD, CBN, and melatonin, help to calm, relax, and balance serotonin levels to fight insomnia and encourage a better night’s rest. Or, try our Calm + patch, which encourages relaxation, calm, and balance, courtesy of the snooze-inducing ingredients Valerian Offiicinalis, Humulus Lupulus, and Passiflora Incarnatia.
