What is CBD?
Alright, yes, we know CBD is now all over, social media, internet, cafés, restaurants, subway stations, skincare, cosmetics, everywhere. But so much information can make it difficult to truly understand where to get the best facts.
Although it is a new trend, in fact, the Cannabidiol (CBD) was discovered in 1940. It seems that it has its roots in Central Asia, used in ritual and as medicine back in 750 B.C.
CBD is a chemical in the Cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana or hemp. Over 100 chemicals, known as cannabinoids, have been identified in the Cannabis sativa plant.
One thing to know is that this beautiful plant has been with us for centuries and its benefits and uses are here to stay. We are bringing them to you most professionally and safely.
CBD Vs. THC and Hemp CBD Vs. Cannabis CBD
These terms can get overwhelming; lets’ break them down.
CBD Vs THC
THC and CBD are both cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant, but they’re different in many ways.
An easy way to think about it is that delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is the cousin of CBD. THC is the major psychoactive ingredient in cannabis associated with the “high” feeling; CBD won’t give you that feeling.
Hemp CBD Vs Cannabis CBD
Often people get lost whether they have to use hemp or cannabis CBD. Well, the short explanation is that they both derive from different varieties of the Cannabis Sativa plant.
Basically, hemp plants contain more CBD, and cannabis plants contain more tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Certain countries have restrictions for one or the other one.
What are the different types of CBD?
This is pretty straight forward; there are 3 types: isolate, broad-spectrum and full-spectrum.
CBD is isolated from the rest of the hemp plant, creating products that are 99-100% pure CBD, with no other cannabinoids or terpenes present.
This product contains other significant beneficial, natural compounds alongside CBD and may include trace amounts of THC.
The broad-spectrum is essentially full-spectrum CBD, with the THC component removed. This is great for athletes and some people that cannot consume THC.
What are the other compounds?
The very famous: cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.
The “entourage effect” happens when the combination of these three compounds plus the CBD work together rather than in isolation. They go to your body’s endocannabinoid system helping your nervous system and boosting your immune function.
